Well another year of Moose hunting has come and gone.. We did alright not as well as some years but not to bad..
We left home on the 3rd and returned home on the 10th... We only managed 1 bull this year.. We were hoping for at least 2 and maybe the 3rd would have been a bonus but what can you do... It wasn't for lack of game,,, there was plenty of that it was just luck and poor calling... This was the first year in I can't remember how many years I wasn't able to call 1 in.. All I got for a weeks worth of calling was 2 answers but no action. My Nephew and bro in law were able to connect on one nice bull the first day and 1 of our partners missed a nice bull at quite close range on the third day and that was all we saw for bulls... Saw plenty of cow calf pairs.. I don't know it was a weird rut this year.. Do to the cold warm cold warm I think it spread the rut out over a long period and as such it makes for poor calling... Well that's my excuse anyways and I'm stick in to it...

I think in a way it was a blessing in disguise tho,, it was a good experience for my two boys.. We actually had to hunt hard this year and they learned a lot.. The last couple years we were tagged out in 2 - 3 days and the hunt was over so this year we really worked at it hard... And if anything they will appreciate the animals more,, they now realise that its not always easy and we have to appreciate each animal we are given.. The Moose was split between 4 families so it will be a treat when we have Moose instead of feeling like you have to eat it to get it cleaned up...

My oldest son Jesse was able to take a nice 5 x 5 166 gross whity as well so he did enjoy the trip...

I will have some pics posted shortly...

I have been away from the site for a couple weeks so if I missed any ones hunt I congratulate all those that I missed and good luck to those yet to head out...

Hey Walleyes, good to have ya back. Congrats on the bull, and tell Jesse congrats also......a 166 whitey (gross or not) is a damn fine deer.

You are right in the value of having to hunt hard, and how much you can actually learn. I'm sure this trip will pay off in spades down the road for you and your sons. Can't wait for the pics!

Got some pics in boys enjoy..

And thx tree,, once again it was good to be out with the boys... Jesse is 18 now and pretty soon it won't be cool to hunt with the old man so I am enjoying the time we do still spend together...

Don't worry Walleyes, nobody can replace hunting with the old man!
Ever since I was 18 I've been TRYING to get the old man back out in the bush. Looks like I'll have to wait till he retires. It seems like ever since I became succesful on my own he doesn't feel the need to come out anymore? Kinda the other way around! LOL

Thx guys,,, it is a nice camp but a chore to set up but once shes up its very comfy... We set up the smaller 14 x 16 for my bro inlaw and a friend to sleep in and as the tent to sit in and have a few drinks if someone wants... My oldest son has asma and as such can't be around cigarette smoke. The other 3 guys all smoke so this way if they want to sit around late and have a couple doubles and smoke it doesnt affect me and the boys in our tent...

In a post a couple days back there was someone wondering about camp stoves,, and as far as I'm concerned you can't beat the Camp Chef stoves... They are a little bulkier but when they are set up you have a stove.. I have the oven top for mine as well and do they ever work well.. Its just like an oven at home,, rap you're roast in foil, set the temp at 350 and roast,, a very nice feature...
