Got on the ice this weekend up near Grande Prairie with a few buddies. This was my catch. Tip-up is about 17.5 inches long. Ice was around 3 inches. Gotta fire up the smoker now!!!

Beautiful fish! I'm amazed at the color variation between them. Is this normal for Brookies?

yes, at this time of year the males really dress it up compared to the more conservative(but still gorgeous) colors of the hens. immature fish and triploids will be even less vibrantly colored.

the length of time deceased and how the fish was preserved probably account for the rest of the color variations in this picture.

Troutpirate provided a good explanation.

The male at the top left was the first to be caught, hence the colour loss.

The two below him are females, the silver one was a triploid and had no developed gonads. The big female below her is full of eggs.

The two on the right are males and caught at the same time, I can't explain the colour difference for those guys.... but the big guy on top is one of the darker ones I've caught.
