Does anyone know an effective way of sharpening the jiffy auger blades? I have seen the sharpener, but am not going to dish out $50 to see if they work, or for something a good stone will do. Any one have luck with this product or others?

I have that Jiffy hot plate you mention, works great. I figure it pays for it's self over time. I put it in with my gear just in case I need it out on the ice.

I spray tacked a few different grits of fine to very fine sandpaper (for metal) to a peice of glass/mirror. I hold the blade at the correct angle and file away. Only filing on the one side of course. Works for me. Also works excellent for sharpening sausage grinder blades.

Good luck
