Got away from the rig for a couple hours today and ran around checking out some of the local reservoirs and here's the report.

On all the lakes I went up on the dikes and threw some heavy rocks onto them and I must say the ice looked like it is getting good. I threw 10 - 12 pound rocks as high as I could into the air and about 15 feet out and the ice never gave and sounded solid.. It has been -20 or better here for the last 3 days so it is starting to freeze well. I wouldn't be tempted to drive on yet but in a couple days I would say a guy could safely walk out far enough to fish. If I wasn't heading north for a whitetail hunt at the end of the week I would be out there this weekend for sure. Like I said I wouldn't attempt the middle of the lake but guaranteed 20 - 50 feet from shore will be fine on most reservoirs..

Here are a few pics..

Cowoki,, very solid..

Lake Newell,, check out the steam rising from it.. You could see it for miles its actually what got me on the trip. When I saw it this morning I thought that's what it was so I had to go for a drive to check it out..

Good to see RH is frozen now. I could see the steam clouds from work, probably a good 10 miles or more away. I will check out a couple more reservoirs today and post what I see as well, Im hitting a perch pond soon as it gets light. Good luck with your deer hunt.
