Found what I think was an old ear tag years ago in Zone 402, just dug it out of my old junk box. Any how its metal about an inch long and a 1/4 inch wide. Its stamped H of A, and under that ALTA. the number on the otherside is 8K 93437. It has a claw end that appears it was meant to pierce an ear. If anyone has an idea of what it may be let me know.

A visual image would probably help.

It could be a domestic cattle tag for sure and I think they also used the HA tag on some of the elk transplants if I'm not mistaken.

H of A stands for Health of Animals tag. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA)uses these tags. Take it to a local CFIA office and see if they can give you some info about it.

They are used in lots of livestock including domestic elk and deer production during TB testing.

Thanks Bear. So your telling me its not from a sasquatch. Found it in the late 1970's or so.

If you found it in the late '70s...it's from a domestic cow.

Another piece of scrap metal. But I can still tell stories.

It could be from a long dead elk since a few elk were captured and ear tagged by F&W at the A7 ranch back in the 70's. The only one who may have the old records would be the Wildlife Biologist in Lethbridge (403-381-5266).
