Last winter I bought a Shimano Corvalus. Used it ice fishing lakers on its first mission and it piled up on its first fish. Reel handle tight to turn, and it wont freespool line off without being pulled off. Yes the adjusment knob is working. I sent it to Shimano in Ontario last spring with a detailed note explaining issues. Get it back 2 months later. Put it to work in a summer derby for pike, managed a 3rd place, but it wasnt with the corvalus. The old St Croix took over after fish #1. The Corvalus was doing the same thing it was before being shipped. Funny thing, works good in the hand, until a load and work is put on it, then it just completely fails and will not come around. If they werent worth so darned much, id chuck it and buy another one, but cant let it go without burning up some grease. Does anyone out there know of any GOOD reel mechanic's in Alberta that would be able to take a look at this?

I have stripped and serviced my own reels since I was a young kid, never fixed though. Anyone know what its worth to service and grease in service reels? Been getting lazy the last few years and have afew that could use some TLC. You guys remember off the top of your head what it costs for tailor-service like this?

Hey Wes,

I would say try phoning and asking the reel doctor what it would cost. Just let them know what you have and they should be able to give you all the info you need.

i agree call the reel doctor he's excellent and if warranty is not good his prices are very fair.
