White Fish?

Can you use tip ups for white fish?
I know that may be a green question but I have only ice fished a couple times.
Do they bite more in the morning/dusk or all day?

And automatic fisherman type tip will work, but not a free spooling. Although whites have some pretty tender mouths and hooks can come out pretty easy.

I'll put a vote in for morning only, but that's just my preference.

Tip ups not a good idea and the morning or even late afternoon are the best for the whites.

I would agree with tips not working - on a rare occasion when using maggots they might. The tips might help to pull out the jacks that hang around and seem to scare the whites.

Personal experience is that whites tend to be quite moody whether they bite or not, weather (pressure changes) seem to affect them. Sun and cloud is also a big factor IMO. Morning was always the best times.

I have never really the good days line up with the moon phases.

tip ups wont work. Whitefish are kind of special.. Most fish bite early morning or right before dusk. The whitefish feeds All afternoon, and typically that Is when I catch the most of them. I do catch them morning and before dark too, but I definitely get more in the afternoon.

I was hoping someone would tell me the day time was good. I will be fishing for walleye morning and dusk.
Never caught a whitefish before so would be cool.
Use a wireworm?
