View Full Version : Burntstick ice fishing conditions?

Hey does anyone know how Burntstick lake is for fishing for trout and how is the ice conditions?? Never really done much icefishing for trout, just fly fishing any suggestions of lakes within and hour or hour and a half of Red Deer? Thanks fellas!!

Bitch Lake and Phillis Lake are close to Burnstick, Beaver also but the gate was closed so mabey its closed right now, i havent looked in the regs to check

Have never heard of trout in Burnstick...mostly pike, perch and the odd walleye...Stocked brook trout in Birch...Beaver closed for the winter...sk

the trout are few and faw between but a 4lb average size we fly fish there in the summer in a day excpect to land a "trout" or none at all but i use leech flies when the hatch are on and if i dont get the trout i slam the small pike and walleye and perch

Burntstick for Pike, Perch and occasional walleye
Birch for Brookies best in winter
Alford Lake for Rainbows. Aeration on so thin ice
Phyllis for Rainbows
Dickson for Rainbows
Beaver is closed to ice fishing (Trophy Management Lake)

Hey thanks guys wasnt sure if there were still trout in Burntstick sounds like they are tricky to get just like cow lake!! Might try out Birch this weekend. Any suggestions for what area of the lake on Birch, and ice conditions if anyone has been?? Thanks for your help fellas!! Keep your lines tight!!!

cow lake bows just get fished out quickly but if your gonna try you luck on trout use shrimp! small silver/gold spoons. or a prince nymph fly

give yellowhead (moose lake) a try , nice brookies in there. west of the james river store on 587.

hey grice do you have to take a range road to get there not sure if ive ever heard of that lake?? cant find it on google maps??do you by chance take range road 53 just off of 587 before 22? thanks for your help man!!

how many brookies can u keep in birch because i tryed to find that lake in the regulation book but i cant find it
