Well you know the fishing is tough when you have to work hard at catching fish even in PCR. we spent most of the day there yesterday, nothing at all during daylight, then as it darkened up the fish finally moved in and started biting. Or more like nudging, the line moved, but hooking them was a real pain. As soon as they felt the weight of the jig they would drop the bait, took a while to figure out a better system, but we managed to catch a dozen or so walleye, including the gf's big one that was probably the best Ive seen come out of there yet, and a couple burbs. They definitely werent up to their usual slam and run bites for sure. Beautiful day on the ice for the third day in a row, lots of sunshine and not much wind til the sun went down. Lots of drifting snow on the way home, made for a long drive but worth it to get out fishing again. Got home at 1:30 am and found someone had stolen all the snow from our driveway, the nerve of them! :sHa_shakeshout:

Fished there on tuesday night, and it was pretty tough.

Probably landed 10-12 Walleye and 1 small pike. Zero burbot.

It's been drivable on the south side for a few weeks now, just don't drive under the bridge and you'll be fine....

We need a steady barometer. The bite has been off since the weather change. This weekend should be good better moon phase too.

Probably 30 inches or so, depending where on the lake, I drove across from the boat launch and drilled holes all the way, it was a little thinner in the center but not much. daytime I dont think you will have much luck, unless you fish very deep maybe. We saw zero fish on the cam all day.

Okay I have taken my kids to pcr a couple of times(early ice), and we couldn't keep the fish away.. Lol. It sounds like it's been getting tough there to find fish and I just thought I would get your guys opinion about why this is? Some guys say the fish are starving and die, some guys say poaching is the problem. Just thought I would ask guys who fish this lake because in the summer stories of 100 plus fish days were not uncommon.

Well I could see why burbot fishing would get slow, there is only so many burbot to be caught in a lake and when on any given weekend there is a tonne of peope there..... The walleye fishing however, I would assume that they are getting educated. They are walleye after all, they can be quite spooky

I'm still learning it myself but from what I've gathered it has to do with:
1) changing barometric pressure
2) mid-winter when oxygen is low, fish are very dormant

But then again, unlike the majority of AOF members I don't catch many fish anyways... :\

Ive been there several times this winter and i just think it is the fish traveling lots throughout the day. I have been fishing a spot one morning that wayne had fished the night before (using his old holes) and he caught fish after fish and I didnt have a bite all morning. I have been hearing alot of people say that they have been at pcr all day and seldom got bites. but whenever i go at night the fish are always there. i also know people who have been there and got nothing in the day and then once night comes around the fish move in and then its the typical night bite. IMO just from these observations. the fish are moving out to the deep deep water, or just somewhere where people are not looking for them and then moving into shallower water at night where people are fishing. Poaching is a problem, but the biggest offenders of that are the pike that live in PCR. They are not dying from lack of food. the walleye in there do not look sickly skinny. they are stunted but not dying of lack of food. combined with their daytime location, one could also suspect that maybe they do not feed as much at all outside of "prime feeding times" in the morning / night.

a long shot could be that the walleye have started thinking they are burbot and only feed at night. ha.

Walleye typically are low light feeders. Right when the sun comes up and right before it goes down are usually the best times of day to fish for them.
