i caught this guy at sylvan lake... hopefully my pike is showing up

i kept it cuz i wanted to eat it i was craving the meat for so long its been a long time since i had pike and she tasted good

all pike over a certain size spawn, not just the big ones. give your head a shake.

he was only 7 pounds, 73 cm. i wanted to put it back but was so craving pike i had to sacrafice that one but other than that i usuly put them back... the big ones

You did nothing wrong. Not the first or last person to keep a pike and eat it (including myself). You gave an honest answer which got my respect. Keep up the good work fishing.

If he kept one much smaller it would be under sized thats a decent pike to keep imo I release the true monster fish those are the ones who lay the big eggs

thanks darren m. i always give the big fish a 2nd chance in life lol. that is when i do catch them... its rare lol

no worries. I'm basically a C&R guy, but once in awhile it never hurts. i always tell my kids when they want to keep it that if you clean it, cook it, and eat it (and as long as it fits in the regs) you are welcome to it. Doesn't happen to often (maybe once?)
