Hey I'm interested in a 17 Mach 2 rifle to head shot some grouse.
This is the gun I'd prefer to use of I can get one / convert a 22lr. Any one have any suggestions as to brand and model ?

Bolt action prefered and low power scope to be used.

And how available is ammo?

Wholesale Sports had some Marlin and Savage rifles on for clearout prices last month, so it's possible that they still have some in stock. The older model Ruger 77/22s are easy to convert,by adding a Green Mountain barrel, which you can easily do yourself.Just be sure that the gun has the older bolt on barrel, and not the new threaded barrel.I buy my 17Mach2 ammunition in bulk from Prophet River for under $7 per box.

You will also need a different weighted bolt, or heavy bolt handle at the least. Several different companys sell what you need.

Be aware that most companies have stopped selling the 10/22 conversions, because of issues with cases rupturing.Even the ammunition companies don't recommend using their ammunition in semi auto rifles.
