I haven't been in a while but was thinking of going this weekend. Just wondering if it's worth the drive.

No. Spray is in Kananaskis provincial park where no motorized vehicles are allowed on the ice.

Plus, there's probably 2 feet of snow.

Just got back from the Spray. There's about 6" on snow on top of a thin crust, and then 4" or so water, then 32" of ice. - and a good wind.
Make sure your boots are good & waterproof, and if you don't have a power auger, bring a big teenager.
Two of us caught 3 smallish fish in 3 1/2 hours of fishing & missed another 3 or 4.
120' of water, fish were either right off the bottom, or at about 55 ' depths.

Thats what I thought, but for some reason I am not even sure where I learned that. I thought maybe I was just being dumb.

When i was there sunday the last fish i got he took the bait 3 times kept biteing the end of my smelt off and continued to stick around. hooked the last smelt in the middle insted of near the head and finely hooked him. cleaned him and found all my bait. a nice 18 Inch lake trout.

the fist 2 i hooked right after one another took them out for a picture and put them back down the hole and they dident wanna stay down kept swimming up the hole and jumping on the ice. had to block the hole with my ice scoop till they went on there way lol.

Fun times.

Was up to Spray this morning from about 8:00-11:00. The wind was howling, it was snowing hard, and I only managed 2 bites in 3 hours. Definitely the slowest day I've ever had up there.
