I know these savage 340A bolt action 30-30's are not the pretty girl in class. But Ive always wanted a 30-30.. and im just not into the lever gun game yet.

Wondering what scope mount options there are for a Savage 340A bolt gun and where I can buy them..... or is this a Gunsmithing kind of job?

Reason I ask... Is ive been on the lookout for a 340A... and just the other day.... I ran across one... in prestine condition... no rust, no marks..... stock is mint... bluing is mint And the buyer is selling for a hair under $200

I am not familiar iwth all the letter designations and options for the Savage340 but the newer ones were drilled and tapped for a sidemount that is usually available from firearms parts stores.

I had an early 1960's Savage 340 in .222 that was drilled and tapped but it took a local (Calgary) retailer several weeks to get the mount in mostly because they kept forgetting to order it.

A company called B-Square makes a side mount, part # BSS14600. You can order from this site:

I worked up loads for a 340 quite a few years ago, with 150 Btips ir was quite accurate - 10 shots into about 1" iirc.

Weaver side mount 1
This is a two piece system so the top mount is also needed

Bigbore, I got a new weaver sidemount that fits that gun. You can have it. I had rings somewhere too but can't find them, must have gave them away, sold the gun a long time ago.

Thanks you !!!
Let me at least EMT you some funds for shipping? Do you know what other rings will work on the mount other than Weavers?

Thanks to the rest for the tips. Reloading might be fun for the 30-30, not sure how much use it would get... sort of a "just to have" item

Many years ago when I first saw one of these in a catalogue I thought it would be neat to own one (the very low price tag was the biggest draw).

I have since come to the view that the 30/30 was meant for a lever gun and the lever gun was pretty well meant for the 30/30.

I don't see much for a practical application for this rifle in that cartridge.

But then again what does practicality have to do with the desire to own another gun???

I think this gun would be great! Great starter gun for kids, a bolt action 30/30! I would give it a ton of use! Being a bowhunter as well, I think it would be an awesome gun! Perfect for tight bush hunting! If youre looking to get rid of it ever, let me know! I'd even just put iron sights on her! Sounds like a fun little light kicking gun, and to top it off, factory ammo is dirt cheap!
