What should be a good dollar investment for a .22 calibre rifle?

I paid $100 for a model 60 cooey it will probably last forever not a pretty gun but accurate and fun can probably find a less expensive .22 but that was what I was willing to pay ( came out before serial numbers were a Canadian requirement)
Good luck- Cliff

The more expensive the better. CZ, ruger, marlin, browning, henry are good brands. marlin has some very good quality 22's for good prices.

There is only one make of .22 worth mentioning. Anschutz!

Kidding.

I honestly would say I think they are the best, however, for general plinking and small game shooting, most makes will do fine.

I have seen older Coeys in nice condition sell at farm auctions for $75.00 to $150.00 depending on the crowd and the condition.

The Anschutz is worth about $500.00 these days I do believe.

I suppose it depends more on budget and intended use then on the particular make or model, lemons notwithstanding.

Speaking of which. The only really bad .22 I have ever run into was a brand new Remington. Don't know if Remington has a problem or if it was just one that slipped past QC.

You could invest $200 in my Ruger 10/22 with a Bushnell 3-9x rimfire scope and a trigger kit that I want to sell. I think that would be a good investment :)

Depending on the type of gun that you want, prices can vary from $100 for a used gun, to over $3000 for a top end custom rifle.

Stick around , tomorrow there are going to be a couple of Anschutz and a very nice Martini match rifle on the exchange - I hear the owner has a new toy in mind and is going to liquidate some stuff!:>)

I would reccomend that you dont shy away from spending money on a 22 or a scope for it. It seems like so many people have the attitude "its only a 22" but I know that my 22's have seen way more ammo go through them than any of my other guns. On that same note it really depends what your budget is like. If you are looking to spend under 300 i would reccomend a savage bolt gun (verry accurate) or a 10-22. If your budget will allow 500ish I would be looking at a cz(very accurate and well finished) and if you can spend more than that I would be looking into anschutz or something along those lines. And dont forget some good glass to put on top of it, trust me you wont regret it.

Same here for my 455. I also just recently picked up a new Ruger 96/22 for $150.00. I actually like shooting it more than the 10/22.

You can't go wrong with a savage mk2, or marlin, or CZ. I have owned and shot all 3, i prefer the marlin and savage, they just fit me better.
