I'd appreciate some help. I lost my end gate of my trailer on the road and it bent one of the steel pegs. I did try hammering it back with a sledge but it's solid 1" steel and won't budge. Was thinking of try to heat with a tiger torch but unsure if thats the best idea.

Any suggestions? Or anyone on here that can help?

Not sure if you could get it hot enough with a tiger torch . Kind of hard to tell from those pictures what is what.

Do you have a way to hold it solid? If you do just put a long pipe(at least 8') over the bent one and pull or push.

x2,maybe after a while of heating and some leverage, i would say use oxy-acetilene with the heating end(rosebud i believe its called). It looks to me like the thinner sheet metal is what is bent?

yeah youll need to get it hotter ... a tiger torch wont get it hot enough... princess auto sells the little 2 bottle combination used for brazing... i think its 20$ or smth... ive used that b4 to heat metal to bend it... works good

There I lightened up the pics.

The piece that is bent most is the actual 1" rod. I guess if I could find a tube long and strong enough, and heat it, it might come....

It's a snow bear style but don't think it's an actual snow bear.

if its only 1 inch thick stick it in the hole mount it belongs in and use the gate as your wrench...if the mounting hole is strong

Nope, that won't do it. Tried that already.

is it only bent in 1 direction?

Not really. Both out and down although the way it sits in there the out will be the only thing that will matter.

Come over to my place on the weekend and I can fix you up. My acetylene Turbotorch can get that piece red hot, and I have all kinds of various diameter pipes to use as a snipe over top of your gate rail.

PM me to arrange.

put a come along on it and put some tension on it from other post...throw as much heat as you can on it while its under tension.
or bring it to our Fab shop

If you can do as chubbdarter says a little heat won't hurt it either. I would recommend rosebud but a tiger torch for several minutes would definately help to soften the steel and make it more pliable.

I have the same trailor and had the same problem, a tiger tourch wont work, but a cutting tourch or rose bud will. Once I fixed mine I started using ratchet straps to hold the end gate instead of those little pins that it came with. Just hook them to the cross bar and then under the trailor, I have'nt had the same problem since.

I hear ya. As soon as I get it fixed I'm selling it though as I no longer need it.
