I recently saw a tv ad for a new redesigned model 710, however i can't find anything online, even on remingtons website. visually it looks very nice. does anyone know anything about this new 710, we all know the old one is garbage.

The new 770 is just an updated version, but the lack of quality hasn't changed much.

What are the problems with these guns? I saw the Remington 770 & Savage Edge (I thinK) at a recent show, and was temped to buy one for my son.

Would they have been a waste of money or what?

Can someone enlighten me please?

I can't speak about the Savage, but I do know about the Rem 770. I had one. The bolt is very sticky to operate, it won't feed properly from the clip if its the first shell. I've heard of others that the more they shot theirs, the bolt just eventually seized in. Rem tried to rectify this problem by making the bolt with lots of slop, but still the bolt wouldn't slide properly. When I bought mine I paid $640.00 with a $40 mail in rebate. By the next year the price had dropped to $340. The Bushnell scope that is mounted and boresighted is a POS. Its a Sharpshooter model, about a $40 scope, and overpriced at that. My suggestion would be to run away from these rifles. Run away fast.:scared0018:

If it was on Wild TV, sometimes the American commercials aren't always that current. I saw one for Knight Rifles not too long ago.

I wouldn't expect any less than that from you WTJ. :) But at least the Savage barrels are threaded in whereas the 710 and 770's are a press fit into the action. Thereas thus the comparison ends. :sHa_shakeshout:

I shoot a savage, it's the cheap 111fcxp3, I got it for under 450 bucks and I just put the scope I had on my other rifle on it! I love it! And I am very interested in seeing the new edge model! I think it's going to be a decent rifle! The savages are a working mans rifle! They aren't pretty but they are functional, and they are very accurate! I love mine!

i am telling you guys this was a NEW 710 it closely resembled a 700.

and the savage edge is like 10x better than the 770

i own one and consistantly get 1" groups at 100 yards and their are reports of people getting 1/2" groups with theirs, thats how you know its a good gun for 360$

I willingly admit to ONCE owning a rem 710.... i took it on part trade.... paid $0.00 for it and it was an absolute sharpshooter with no issues. I sold it after that season.

JohninAB may give me a good ribbing for owning it... but it was a rifle that would put meat on the table if that was all a person could afford. I sold to a person that needed a meat rifle

Still junk though IMHO

Any 700? anytime? Just how accurate is your 770? What does your average 100 yard group measure?

it put food on the table for 4 years... consistantly!!!!

I could say the same thing about some 30-30s and 303s, but I wouldn't bet on them in an accuracy contest with the 700s that I owned.

any gun should be able to put food on the table , if it cant then its pretty worthless, after all isn't that what they are for?

i emailed remington about the new 710 i'll post when i get a reply i'm thinking maybe the project got scrapped

HEH..... I wouldnt go that far..... I know a guy who has a 300 win mag model 700 sendero that puts 5 shots in one ragged tiny itsy bitsy hole at 200 yards if he doesnt fart

My guess is that you're confusing the old commercial for a new project. The 710 is dead and gone.

well in a vice... i own a 700 sendero in 7mm and a 770 in 7mm and the difference is no more than a 1/4 inch in the 770... the sendero puts em almost through the same hole every time but 770 is hardly any different... shoot one b4 you comment... im not saying anything about the quality of the bolt/magazine and cycle...it is chitty when it comes to that... its a cheaper rifle... but it does shoot straight...

I have shot both 710s and a couple of 770s, and I was not impressed. Accuracy was okay but nothing spectacular, and the actions felt like they were full of sand.

your right... the action is no good... they are very sticky... but were you stationed when you fired the 770? im not talking about the 710 because it has a diff barrel than the 700 alltogether

Stationed? I was shooting off a proper rest and bags, off of a concrete bench, as I do when sighting in any rifle, or testing it for accuracy.
