I am new to this forum and I am looking for some info about goldeye fishing near Calgary. Maybe not for now but for after May. South of Calgary would be better. Thanks a lot.:)

The north saskatchewan that runs through Edmonton , is crawling with them.

I am sure the south sask has them, east of Taber ...They must make their way up the oldman and Bow , but I have never heard of anyone catching them there ....

Go up around Drumheller and throw a pickerel rig in the Reddeer river with a half worm on each of the hooks. You will be pulling them out all day. The odd one will be a mooneye too. Below is a goldeye from that area.

+1 on the red deer river, I've caught a ton of them out of there, right in town and around red deer specifically. Never targeting them, they're odd little things...

Thanks guys. I came here 2 years ago from Toronto and I fished sunfish, perch, bass, and crappie there. Tried once with friends in AB only and found goldeye is something like crappie. I mean they taste alike.:) By the way, is the season open in April for that eare?

The Red Deer river anywhere around Drumheller has plenty of Goldeye. When they are running in the fall they will take almost any fly in your box. I use a decent sized split shot 4' above the fly and let it bounce along the bottom. Use a little heavier line than usual as you will snag up lots. I'm not too sure if there is a bait ban along this stretch of river so be sure to check the regs.
