On November 16th, after shooting an easy mule doe the day before, Dad and I decided we would brave the cold and hit Blood Indian Reservoir for one more day of fly fishing while there was still some open water. We packed up the fishing equipment and Dad's rifle in case we changed our minds. He still had an antlered mule tag to fill. On our way south to the dam, we thought we would drive up to a crest that we spot from on a regular basis for first light. From this spot you can see many miles of coulee. After a few minutes we seen what looked like a decent buck duck down into a coulee ahead. We hoofed it across the field and missed getting a good look at him again as he turned the corner of a coulee. We pressed forward trying not to jump him. As we turned the corner we could see why he was in a rush. He had a group of 8 does to himself - and he was trying his best to get some action. After watching him rake a tree, Dad decided he was "the one" and took a poke. A good shot, but a little high, so he chambered another one and put him down (didn't even move after the first hole in him). I walked back to the truck, opened (and closed) a few gates, and drove the truck right to the top of the coulee.

He's a nice even 4X4 with decent mass...

Within 25 minutes of getting this guy tagged - gutted - and loaded, we were on the water fishing. Caught about 20 between the two of us on white, green, and purple wooley buggers. Three of them would have been 18"+ and FAT - Should be great fishing on the early ice. CAN'T WAIT!!

Freezes from the north end to the South End. About 2/3 rds covered when we were there on the 16th - about 2 weeks ago. Been really cold since then, but I couldn't comment on how it is today. Risky this time of year, so take caution if you do give it a go.

Also heard third or fourth hand that someone was on at Carolside - but not sure how solid that info is :scared:
