Well, this actually happened on Friday so I guess it's sort of old news now, but I finally pulled my 20lber out of Wab! :sHa_shakeshout:
Unfortunately there's not a huge epic story to go with it! Last Friday morning it was still pretty cold and I wasn't feeling the work thing. I made an appearance on my site and chatted with a couple of the guys for a bit (they weren't sticking around either) and then I decided to make the most of it and i headed out to Wab.
Despite the flood ice I hit last week I really wanted to do some exploring on the South side of the lake. I'm not a fan of the crowds so always enjoy getting a little more 'out of the way' if I can :) Anyway, this time I stayed WELL away from where I knew the flood ice was and all was well. There's more snow on the south side of the lake, and there's a few inches less ice as well.
I started punching holes until I got myself into around 14FOW, put up the tent, and started fishing. This was around 1:30 in the afternoon. The afternoon was pretty slow but there were a few fish around, and then between 4 and 5 things took right off. I ended up being out there for about 5 hours and got 8(?) pike with a few over 10 and this girl mixed in there.

This was actually the first time I've really used the double 8" holes and I'm now a believer. She turned and came up the hole so easy that I honestly didn't think she was *that* big. I was guessing something in the 15lb range, so I was quite surprised when I got her on the scale and she weighed in at 20lbs 1oz! Maybe she'd just wolfed down a 3lb white or something?! At that moment I was really wishing I had someone with me who could have taken a pic or two for me...these pics of "a fish on the floor" just don't do it justice!
So in conclusion, if you put in enough time eventually it'll pay off. I've been fishing the snot out of Wab this season, and I was sure I'd eventually get that 20lber. Now that I've gotten it, the push is on to beat mooseknuckle to that elusive 25lb mark! :fighting0030:
