Hi, toady sometime at 9:00 the smoke stacks of the Transalta Wabamun plant were demolished. The smoke stacks and the plant were both a well known distinct land mark in the Wabamun area for about 50 years. It will be strange seeing that a well known landmark I recognized for all of my life is gone.:(

Well, I guess sometimes change is intersting as well.:)

Finally eh? My first career job was out at that plant. We always joked that they should just tear the place down

Will change the skyline out there for sure, heard a rumor that Sundance isn't much longer for this world either. Supposedly its done sometime in 2013.

Seriously!? My Dad spends most of his work hours there at Sundance.:scared0015:

It was even sadder when they stopped pumping water into the lake. No more mid-winter flyfishing for super-sized pike.

Yup. TransAlta is saying a number of units can't be "economically repaired, replaced, rebuilt, or restored" and is attemtpint to cancel Power Purchase agreements it has with other companies. Sounds to me like the plant is coming to the end of it's life.

Care to post some pictures?

Thanks!

This wasn't the biggest winter Wab pike on a fly but it sure made my day.
