Well I've been taking a bit of flack for not having a "proper" camera for taking photos of game and scenery, and with good reason, my Ipod just isn't doing any justice to anything. So my question to all of you is, what is a good SLR I believe they are called? For a reasonable price, I don't want to go top end on my first, just some nice crisp pictures. Any advice will be greatly appreciated as I know nothing about cameras and all the doo dadds that go with them.

PS. I would also like to take pics of animals from a little ways off so something with a good zoom that still has good pic quality would be great!!

SLR stands for single lens reflex....and if you know nothing about cameras you may want to stay away from them and stick to a good 'point and shoot'. You'd be surprised at the quality of picture a couple hundred bucks will get you.

Look for something with optical zoom and not digital zoom, although most have both.

Mega pixels is key.... the bigger the better.

My daughter has this one and it takes incredibly sharp pictures:

Buy a used Canon Xsi or T1i off of Kijiji. You'll save a tonne and their great introductory SLRs. Keep in mind that your camera means nothing compared to the glass it sees the world though. Don't compromise on your lens.

All of these were taken with an Xsi.

Whats that bad boy worth horsetrader?

Also would kind of megapixels does it have?

I am thinking of getting one of the ones that is at walmart. It is water proof, freeze proof, shock resistant and doesn't cost alot but has pretty high megapixels for a point and shoot cam.

I bought a Canon S95 a week ago before our trip. For a point and shoot it takes very very nice pictures. Don't be fooled by megapixels it is around 10 and takes better pics then her 14.1mp Canon does and it is also less then a year old. You get what you pay for.
