Anyone get 1? Futureshop had lots, no lineup, Walmart says they likely wont see them for weeks. Well the 'electronics specialist' said that anyway :thinking-006:

They are slick, I took mine to Hawaii, battery lasts forever browsing, waaay handier than a laptop for travel, the apps are fantastic and lots are free, tons of advantages if you need to geek away from home.

I play pokerist on it all the time, use starwalk to track stars, planets, satellites, put it in a big zip lock bag and identify the constellations and everything while in the hot tub. Oh yeah- you can geek out in the hot tub.

guy I work with stayed up til midnight to order online. Well He thought after midnight he could order it. lol Then he thought ok it must be midnight pacific time. So at 1 am he tried again. Then looked on line and saw 2 am. so he cat napped til 2 and tried again. Still couldn't order. checked again and WOOw That was 2 am pacific time. So he figgered he isn't going to get anysleep anyhow and stayed up til 3. For his trouble he ordered 2 of them. Then when he found out the delivery date he decided to get them sent to his FIL in vancouver. Big mistake cause they wanted to charge him HST instead of just GST. lol when he crawled into work this morning he found out he could have waited til this morning to order them as it is a 5 week wait. and he did change the ship to address so his sister gets them while he is gone.

On my list to pick up!

I had 1 from futureshop with 3g, but TELUS's idea of a data deal, 20.00 per month for minimal meg is ridiculous. I took it back and got a WIFI only, there are numerous places to leech anyway.

That is why I am waiting to get mine until my internet stick is up. Once it is up I will be going with the iPad from then on. Smaller than lap top and much easier to work off of when sitting in the stands somewhere!!

I still don't have the first one, nor do I plan to.

I do actually know someone who stood in line for 3 hours to get one though.

From what I understand there wasn't a significant change from the first one. We have a loaner at work that I intend to play with before deciding.

No lineups at Future Shop in the Hat.

I have the 1st one. I absolutely love it when travelling. Was my best friend on our trip to Cancun last year. I still just look at it as an ipod touch on steroids but its still fun to use.

The only problem i have with it is that it doesn't work with the ipod jack in my new dodge :mad3:

I can still plug it into the external mp3 jack but then i can't control it through the nav system.

Just ordered online. Last time this stuff came out there were lineups and such so didn't even bother trying.

We aren't in that big of a hurry either. I really want it for the Africa flight more than anything. That isn't until August so the 22nd is plenty early.

I thought the same, was just as shocked to see the lineups in Hawaii at the apple stores as seeing no lineups in LLoydminster lol.

If there had been a lineup at all, I would have walked out of Future shop yesterday without one.

I had hoped that the airplanes would have had free wifi in flight, but none did. Some airports had free wifi which was nice.

A fool and their money soon part! Another piece of unnecessary crap for spoiled teenagers and twentysomethings to waste their or their parents money on. An idiot I work with has one of these contraptions and says he also has a mount for it for his dashboard. More distracted drivers, soon though all hand held phones and texting gadgets will be illegal in Alberta while driving. Can't wait.

Nope. Most of Alberta still lets people use their own judgement. County of Strathcona however says it is illegal and they enforce it.

Im not sure about anywhere else.

On November 17, 2010, the Alberta legislature passed what the government refers to as the most comprehensive distracted driving legislation in Canada. Bill 16, the Traffic Safety (Distracted Driving) Amendment Act, 2010, bans not only talking on cell phones and texting while driving but prohibits other activities while driving that do not involve electronic devices.

Hand held cell phones are banned. Under the legislation, it is illegal to hold, view or manipulate a device that receives or transmits telephone conversations, electronic data, emails and text messages. Not only are the sending and receiving such conversations or messages illegal while driving, but it is an offence if the screen of such device is able to be viewed by the driver. Televisions and computers and any device that has a screen that can be viewed by a driver gives rise to an offence under the legislation.

Reading, writing and sketching are also banned. It is also an offence under the act to perform acts of personal grooming or hygiene while operating a motor vehicle. Many similar laws in other jurisdictions do not prohibit activities unrelated to telephones and texting devices.

Sorry to derail the thread, My rant about distracted drivers is for good reason, in July 09 my wife and I were nailed on the highway by a woman talking on a cellphone who did an illegal lane change. The wife was 8 months pregnant at the time with our twins and we were driven into the guardrail at 90 kmh, she suffered a fractured sternum and severe bruising on her adbomen and legs. We spent the night in the hospital with her hooked up to a fetal heart monitor, luckily the babies were fine and her injuries healed. I know some think that it's not a big deal to drive and use phones and texting devices but it was a pretty big deal to us that day! Sorry to derail the thread but I hate those goddarn things! Just my 2 cents!

I fail to see anywhere in this post why I deserve to be lumped into any of your previous stereotypes.

I like gadgets. I use them. I'm 38. I have a job and have never taken any money from my parents after I started to work. I don't use electronics while driving.

Don't comment on how I spend my money please.

Please point out where I specifically referred to you? I did'nt. Age has really nothing to do with it, the woman who hit us was 41 and had three small children in her vehicle which rolled three times after she drove us head on into the guardrail. I would never presume to tell you Cowtown how to spend your hard earned cash! Like I said I just have a serious hate on for those things, nothing personal fella.

I have the 1st gen ipad and love it. I haven't used the lap top since I got it. I've got all my music, all my pictures, get my email, read books, download brochures and instruction manuals for my RV, read 3 daily newspapers, keep lists, use mind maping software for work projects. I get magazine subscriptions, do my banking and order my monthly wine shipment. I have my bird books for references, check the weather and road reports. I get fly fishing pod casts, keep recipes and research my forays in retail therapy.......

but the best part is when I'm po'd at work and just don't want to be there anymore with the swipe of a finger I am looking at a picture of me with a really big fish and I remember why it is I go there :thinking-006:

Painting people with a pretty wide brush there. Having an iPad has nothing to do with someone driving irresponsibly. What happened to you was ridiculous and preventable.

Why am I a fool for buying an iPad?

My daughter has one and I believe that "yes" you can. In my work, I use highly specialized and proprietary software to run diagnostics on large stationary engines and compressors which will not run on an iPad. If it wasn't for that specific requirement, I'd probably get one. Mind you, my super techno-geek daughter will likely donate hers when she upgrades as she can't stand being a version behind. :bad_boys_20:

You're exactly right, having one has nothing to do with driving irresponsibly, having one mounted to your dashboard and using it while driving like the guy I mentioned in my OP does. You are also right in saying that what happened to us was ridiculous, that driver paid and will continue to pay a heavy price for years to come. Maybe I was a little judgemental in labeling all new gadget users in the same lot, I understand that some people need these things for work related purposes, luckily I don't so I have no need for them, I don't even have a cellphone! Ha! It is really irritating though when you see someone walking toward you with their nose buried in some texting machine completely oblivious to everything around them including the people that they almost knock over, or some dumb bimbo standing in the line at the supermarket yakking away on a cellphone in an incredibly loud voice so she can make sure that everyone around her knows she is going to a Ruth's Chris' Steakhouse for supper. So no you're not a fool for buying one, I just have a true dislike for all those things, did'nt mean to ruffle your feathers. Cheers!

I have had mine since Friday, and I have to say I like it. The differences between the 2 are subtle, unless you have used 1 extensively. The dual core processor is much faster, battery life seems definately higher, although 1 was not bad, the camera is a wasted feature on me, as is the smaller size and less weight, but that is the platform Apple is riding on.

More cons- there are no viruses that will affect the IPAD, hance no need to waste money on antivirus software, or free ones that take up space and memory. It has a gyroscope built in, so movements are precise and rapid. The tracking and mapping features are excellent, we use it all the time. Google earth on an ipad is amazing, we were able to look into the hotel we stayed at in Hawaii, then 'walk' everywhere we toured. It is so much nicer to carry than a laptop, is running in seconds, and does almost everything a laptop will anyway.
