I am starting a new job next month and my first 4 days are in Calgary and Airdrie getting trained up. My brother lives there but he isn't a real outdoorsman so he has no clue of what good hunting store entails. Other then BPS and WSS are there other places to check out? I am going to buy a Caldwell Rock deluxe rifle rest and a rear bag and am curious to know the best place to get them.

mmmm, the French Maid. If memory serves me correctly I was quite pleased with the quality of ballet that it provided.

there is an all you can eat crab place in Calgary, just snows and not kings, but it is very good, out on the south east end IIRC. You could go check out ZR Auto, Zahir Rama, does awesome exotic cars. He has the world's fastest Ferreri Enzo.

He also has a cool pawn shop, big place and nice stuff (for a pawn shop)

Guys of stature like you and I Ken make all you can eat restaurant owners real nervous. PM me the name of the restaurant.

Bookers BBQ

They wanted a restaurant lounge that celebrated southern cooking, bbq and seafood, something Calgary didn't have yet. Mardi Gras was a big part of Bookers ...

I was there years ago, when I see all you can eat crab, I am generally up for the challenge. One time when I did that at red lobster, 3 of us were stupid and competing, and I quit when I got dizzy.... ;p;

An AO Bookers Crab Feast Gathering. I love it.

Ken later on make a post for this when you are going to go and I'm sure we'll get a bunch together all at once to go. I will be there for sure. Can you imagine if we get a whole hurd of us go tromping into there? We could put a scare into them for sure. I know they are used to serving a whole lot of people there at once.

Interestingly enough, before that place became Bookers, it was called The Kingfisher. I did the plumbing work down there for those owners.

Sunday and Monday are all ya can eat crab
They have wonderful blues music playing, is a laid back atmosphere and they bring the crab to ya by the bucket and keep it coming all night long.
Their Keylime pie is pretty decent too.
It's about $40 bux a head.
They have lots of other goodies on the menu.

I see that you have been getting lots of useful information from my colleagues on where to shop.

The biggest and maybe the best are WSS and BPS but the last of the independents is Russell Sports, just off McLeod trail south of Glenmore.

I prefer WSS a bit over BPS but I shop at both. Russell's used to be downtown but since it moved to the south I don't go very often.

Welcome to Calgary.

WSS bought out Russels about a year and a half ago. There is no more Russels as far as I know. I bought a Tikka T3 there the week before they closed.

It's probably been quite a while since you have been to Russell's.

Russell's closed close to 2 years ago. They were bought by WSS and then in turn WSS was purchased by UFA.

Glenn from Russell's is the manager at BPS.

Better yet, you Calgary guys set a day, maybe in June? I went to Huntinstuff's BP meet in Edmonton and he had a great turnout.
Let me know when it is, I would love a road trip!

As far as food goes a couple suggestions: Bolero's on McLeod near Glenmore, all you can eat of different meats brought around to you by Gauchos. 5 guys burger and fries in Deerfoot Meadows near Wholesale sports.

Of course seeing Bass Pro is cool but the selection of hunting gear can leave a bit to be desired, as well as the prices, not everything there is cheaper. Wholesale has a sale on right now so depending on when you are coming down youmight be able to find what you are looking for.
If you are into archery the Calgary Archery Center is cool to stop by have a look around and if you bring your bow shoot a round of 3d

Lastly if you have not seen a Lacrosse game go see the best team in the National Lacrosse League, The Calgary Roughnecks. Tickets as cheap as 20 bucks, great entertainment and a trip to Calgary is not complete without a trip the dome for a few "heroin" beers!!

Go to Mec and then head on over to Japanese Village; 2 minutes away. Did that last weekend for lunch.

Remember the Japanese Village menu is different at lunch and supper :)
