Hi everyone, I have a sister in law that lives in Cochrane. We're going down there for a couple of day to visit. I am wondering if the fishing in the Bow is good near town there? I've started fly fishing for the last couple of years and absolutely love it. I've never fished the Bow before, or any river for that matter, just stillwater. Do I have a decent chance of catching anything around Cochrane? Thanks very much or any help!

ya you got a very good chance the fish there are lean and very mean do to the lack of food there so there very aggresive, if you got a 5+ wt fly rod your best bet is streamers!

Thanks for the reply! I have both floating and #4 sinking line. I was thinking floating line with an indicator and a weighted streamer. Does that sound good? Thanks.

nope use floating line a big streamers for your best option as these browns in that section of the rivr are willing to chase your fly and just cover water!
the water there is usaly murky too so nymphs arnt your best bet.
a size 4 white sculpin with a tugston cone would be great stick close to shore aswell

Thanks for all the good advise guys! I won't be going down there until later in the spring. I'll make sure they keep an eye on the river for me so that when I do go it isn't too high and muddy. It's guys like you that make this forum great!

I have fished the Bow right from Cochrane to Banff Park. Took me a few seasons but got it done. I have a few good spots on my map and can give you a heads up if you like. But as said before I would check regs. Let me know if you would like some info. Or search for my Google Map Thread.

ok so youd wanna bring your 10 foot so you have more room to cast farther and more leverage when fighting the big browns. the brookies arnt very fussy eaters bassicly anything they can fit in there mouth or can see. they have a liking to a brown mixed in with a red. if that dosent ring any bells a red and brown wooly bugger works well on them but they like to caught when theres a hatch so keep checking right now the BWOs and black midges are hatching.
you wont catch many from the bow its self so hike upstreem from those creeks. iv only caught a couple strays along with some cutts.
