Last season i fished north of Calgary a lot. I was witness to three wonderful hatches. Heres a short video of one of them showing a storm of salmonflies.http://www.youtube.com/user/rrrbbbtg?feature=mhum
You may have to expand the screen to see the bugs.(thanks low res camera) It was as if all the big fish in there were eating. I caught none under 16 inches. I wont say what the biggest was, but trust a guy who fishes...there were a few that i barely fit in my net. Not bad considering on this small creek most days a 16-17 inch brown is enough to satisfy my brownie craveing.

This picture was taken a week before the video was shot..Oh and ya, this day was a personal best on this creek.

I cant wait for the hatches to start.

Chompin' at the bit...

You are a tying machine Darter. I can't wait to have my little tying office set up hopefully by the end of the week and then can learn to tie some of them bad boys.

I was on the crow last week and noticed that the stone fly nymphs were only about half the size of the one in the picture. I tried downsizing to my smallest stonefly and didn't get touched. Went through the normal princes, hares ear, and pheasant tails also with nothing.
