This (likely) cause what is refered to as "failure to thrive" but this should have been caught by a nurse, doctor or pediatrician. They likely did not see one... I can't beleive how someone could be so irresponsible or ignorant? I'd like to think that perhaps they had mental issues which prevented them from seeing reality, because this would mean that their aren't ppl who are in their right mind who would ignore something like this... What a shame!

The child's status was noted by her physician at her 9-month checkup. The parents did not heed the doctor's advice: which was to go to the hospital.

Yup. It is one thing to be a naive first time parent . . . but to blatantly ignore the advice of a physician who feels a trip to the hospital is required is shocking.

There were many, MANY, cases during WWII where children were exclusively breastfed well into childhood out of necessity . . . but there is absolutely no reason these parents should have withheld solid food. Breastmilk simply does not contain enough nutrients to properly sustain a child beyond 6-months of age (though breastfeeding is now indicated as being beneficial to two-years-old, and that is what the World Health Organization recommends).

I have friends who have successfully raised pudgy and healthy babies on vegan diets. While I may find it a little weird (and way too much work), I do feel it is important to stress that it wasn't the "vegan lifestyle" that lead to this tragedy. I am most inclined to suspect that mental illness is at the root of this.

Very hard to get enough nutrients following a vegan diet. You had better be good at gardening; the store bought food does not have the same nutrient level that it did years ago due to the soil being stripped.

Anyone that has voted Liberal or NDP or Green should be registered as a threat to themselves and others. I would suspect such a registry should cost no more than 2 million dollars. If it saves just one life it will be worth it. Think of the children. Peace out. We can have the registry based in Alberta, and employee hundreds of good Albertans and newfies.

You don't. I was just making on a social commentary on the rules, regulations that most law abiding citizens put up with; however there seems to be a certain lack of ability to protect the defenceless in some cases.

BTW I'm against abortion, but in certain cases I would approve of forced sterilization. I do think it's a little funny, in a sad way that we need to register pets, but any 2 idiots with complimentary sets of genitalia can go forth and ruin a life.
