it was nuts...thankfully I was set up for pike so I had 30 lb braid and 80lb mono leader. I thought we were gonna loose it under the ice when we had to drill those extra holes.

IGFA just called me and they were anonymously tipped off about the dozen assorted donuts from Tim Hortons I shoved down the gut of the fish, and my record is now disqualified....it was good attempt though - Happy April Fools everyone!!!

ha this is actual a legit fish not photoshop...Sean's brother Adam hooked it two years ago, but the fish must have made a swipe at the lure cause he came in and was hooked on the side of the face and not in the mouth - which disqualified it under the IGFA rules for record submissions. This fish was 41 pounds and would have taken over a line class record currently held by someone other than Adam and Sean - what a shame...

Geeze that's a lunker! Congrats. That lake seems to produce monster fish after monster fish wether it's burbot, walleye, pike and of course trout.

Why is that? are most of these monsters kept after being caught.

nets broke 2000, its now 2011...considering the average age of a triploid rainbow trout - these fish are 99% dead.

I guess so, who knows maybe some are continuously escaping here and there.

im sure there is, but the chance of catching one of a few dozen triploids 8 years later when they are huge in a lake as big as diefenbaker is slim to none...

So I take it the Geeks are not guiding after these monsters anymore? Sean say it ant so.

Yeah its sad to say that most of the triploid bows are gone. We are only guiding a select few this year, if we do. mainly return clients willing to gut it out for that one bite.
year 2006, landed - approx 50 bows over 15lbs.
year 2007, landed - 150
year 2008, landed - 200
year 2009, landed - 60
year 2010, landed - 7 :(
So you can see that 2010 was the die off year, they are still out there but REALLY hard to catch, far and few between. We will still be going for the last 3 line class world records, but will have to really work for the last bit. Our efforts will be on new trout fisheries and landing that elusive 16lb eye and 40lb pike.
