So what's this I hear about the American government shutting down on April 8th? Is this really going to happen? If so how will us Canadians be affected?

Well, Alcan is still Canadian, I think, so there will be plenty of tinfoil to make hats out of.

has to do with congress not passing a budget. The democrat congress failed to pass it's budget last october, and the now the republican congress has also failed to pass one. They have been operating on temporary spending bills or something like that. I think it has to do with nobody wanting to raise the debt ceiling...mostly due to pressure being applied by the tea party.

It will likely have very little effect on Canadians. The spiralling panic it MAY cause MIGHT have an affect however. Mostly depends on how the media handles it. They have been making it sound like a bigger deal than it really is in my mind.

Speaking of which:

If Harper gets a majority, I think we'll see a lot more businesses start looking to Canada as a base, as they try and escape the anti-business attitude growing in the states.

Probably more sabre rattling than anything. Mexico would be the better alternative in many ways.

Harper will get his majority this time, and will very likely go down in history as one of our greatest PM ever.

After over 4 years, Canadians I believe are seeing him as just a normal but geeky guy who has done a good job all things considered. The complete idiots I speak with daily who are uninformed but intend to vote really dislike Iggy. Avowed socialists and centrist 'soft liberals' seem to be either staying at home or are supporting Jack.

Either way, it doesn't matter one way or another. The coalition agreement is still in place. We'll have a majority government this go-round one way or another.........
