Hi Pixel Shooter, Those are VERY good shots, awesome.
What kind of Owl is that? My wife and kids just got a really good look at one just like it, and were wondering. Tks
This guy was trying to keep us up all night

It is a Great Gray Owl. They are one of the largest Owls in Alberta.
They have the longest body of all owls but the Snowy owl matches their wingspan and is heavier. The Great Horned Owl is smaller in dimensions but heavier.
They are one of the few owls that frequently hunt in daylight, and they are often spotted hunting rodents along roadways.
Your Owl in the dark looks like a Barred Owl to me. I expect you know what the other two owls you posted are.

Thanks, That's what I thought at first, but the colors are much different than the ones I see around home.
Once again, those are GREAT pics.

While a Great Grey may look bigger than other owls, they really are not that big. On average a Great Horned Owl is much bigger after the feathers. A Great Greys skull goes from just above his eyes to just below his beak. All the rest is just feathers.
