Ok guys, I have been interested in catching a dinosaur for some time now, and a buddy of mine and I had best laid plans to give it a shot last summer, then he went and moved to Ontario. I may be going it alone this summer!
I want all the info I can get.
- Best place in Northern/Central Alberta to try
- type of rod and line
- what to use for lures and bait
- what to expect
- what they taste like ( ok that one was a joke  )
Any info you guys got. Fire away!
For central Alberta the NSR would be your best bet --find a deep pool and drown a couple fresh minnows on a pickeral rig with 20lb test line and relax. Mr sturgeon will come calling eventually.

Best advice for catching sturgeon, go to BC with some buddies and hit up the fraser on a guided trip. Save up your pennies but it will be well worth it.

Although it's farther south than you ask. I catch sturgeon on a regular basis, average between 25-60 lbs. All within 5 minutes of my home:)
I'll give you a hint..........SSR

I will call Rod at Bent Rods in Chilliwack or Freds Custom Tackle in Chilliwack..
I have fished with them both, the first week in April Fred had a 30 fish day with more then half of them being over 5'
