http://s1177.photobucket.com/albums/x351/Fishingmeesh/Fishing/So today I decided to bike Around Glenmore. For those of you who are wondering - Glenmore Reservoir WILL be fishable this opening weekend. :sHa_shakeshout: Most of the open water is by South glenmore park and Weaselhead. Also some at the North Glenmore park and underneath the Glenmore trail bridge.

I've caught a few on Rapala Countdowns and once on a spinner. Only pulled pike out of there so far, all from shore.

iv noticed if you want to get pike in that resivwor you need to get a chunky thick spoon. silver. or a deep diving cranker and the bows are suspended.

Check your regs..... pretty sure the rule is no baitfish(alive or dead) in there (smelts are not considered baitfish).

Not allowed to use live bait at all in Alberta.
It is unlawful to:
Use live fish for bait.
Use scented lures or scented weights where bait bans are in effect.

Just an FYI

There is a bait ban in the Elbow river. This includes scented plastic baits, worms, dead bait fish, smelts, etc. The only exception is maggots, and they can only be used Between 16/8 and 31/10.

You can use any bait you wish in the reservoir, all year - EXCEPT bait fish (this does not include smelts)

There is ALWAYS a ban on live bait fish everywhere in the province, at all times.

Elbow River
* from Hwy 22 downstream to Glenmore Reservoir and tributaries
- June 16 to Oct. 31 – Trout limit 2; Cutthroat and Rainbow over 35 cm; Mountain Whitefish limit 5 over 30 cm:
-- Maggots are the only bait allowed and only in the river from Aug. 16 to Oct. 31.
- Nov. 1 to June 15 – CLOSED

* from Glenmore Reservoir downstream to Bow River
- CLOSED Apr. 1 to May 31 and Oct. 1 to Nov. 30
- June 1 to Sept. 30 and Dec. 1 to Mar. 31– Trout limit 1 under 35 cm; All Trout over 35 cm must be released; Mountain Whitefish limit 5 over 30 cm;
- Maggots are the only bait allowed and only in the river from Aug. 16 to Sept. 30.

Glenmore Reservoir
- May 1 to Oct. 31 – Trout limit 5; Mountain Whitefish limit 5 over 30cm; Pike limit 3 (no size limit); Perch limit 15; Bait fish not allowed.
- Nov. 1 to Apr. 30 – CLOSED

my leeches & worms wiggle around quite a bit when i throw my hooks through them. pretty sure that they're very much alive and positive it's legal in alberta. you have to watch your wording when offering help regarding regulations.

I have tried it a few times in the early spring but get caught up walking around in mud and fishing really shallow water. Where would be the best bet for a pike or brown cruising the warmer shallows?

yud have a better chance at the pike.
use deep diving crankers

Mish@

If you look at glenmore from google earth you can clearly see where the deep spots are. For example if you loof at the south tsection there is a shalow water strip going along the bank which is about 30 yards thick. you have to cast past that strip to catch fish. or you could fish from a canoe

Does that mean that any water body where the regulations just say that using minnows is outlawed still means that smelts can be used.:thinking-006:

I see alot of people at pegasus lake use smelt even though the regulations say that it is unlawful to use bait fish there.

Thanks for the update. It came at an ideal time. I am thinking of hitting the reservoir soon after opening day in early May. I know exactly where to go, its just I was unsure if it would be ice-free. Now I know.
