Weed lake was refilled a few years ago and it is a migratory bird haven. Does anyone know anything about the intent for fish?

It seems it would be great pike lake but I don't really know. I've heard it is only about 9-10' deep but about 6 miles long by 1/2 mile wide. Would pike have to be introduced? What are the chances of it naturally evolving? How long would it take? Do you need several species to be a successful fishery?

It's close to me so a good pike lake would be a bonus.

Do pike eat ducklings??:)

This is the map of the WID system (Weed lake is where Langdon is shown). It would be good to connect Langdon resevoir to Weed lake to provide some flow through (maybe?). LR has fish in it.

No, that should be Langdon Resevoir and it shows on the map. Weed Lake is new (2-3 yrs) and between Glenmore and Hwy #1, parallel to and east of hwy 797. I was wondering how it eventually gets to be a fishing lake.

I may send a note to WID but thought I would ask here first. What would have to happen to make it work?

You guys are just tryin' to get me in trouble:thinking-006:

Seriously, I would never even remotely consider screwing with nature, we have professionals to do that:sHa_sarcasticlol:

So unless someone has some pertient info on this particular lake, how do you go about getting a 6 mile lake set up for fishing??

well first of all those pike are gonna need food so you would need to put some species of minnow in there or suckers then you would probably have to talk to srd about the introduction of fish to this lake but to be honest with you they probably won't care cuz it takes to much time money and effort to do it. soooooooo ya a bucket would be your best bet ....:thinking-006: Im not saying u should do the whole bucket thing though...

Billie, the lake was dry for many years, and the, county, wid and ducks unlimited refilled it to some extent. Go have a look yourself but I don't think that you will find much water. It bleeds out at the north end into the wid, so yes to answer your question, sooner or later pike will migrate from Chestermere into Weed lake.

I think you would have difficulty launching a boat and the bottom near the edges is very soft deep muck. There are lots of pike in Chestermere, also in the canals.

If you can go further east, Eagle lake has walleye, but it can be dangerous to boaters as the wind can come up fast.

Good luck.
