what do you guys carry for alpine lake cutthroat trout?

5 fly boxes to fill the 5 pockets in my vest big enough to hold them. plus a couple more big boxes under the seat of my truck case i lose a special fly or two on the mountain and need just the right one for pit stop on a back road stream on the way home. but i carry way too much gear around, and am too stubborn to change my ways.

I think if you are fishing alpine lakes and hiking in a ways then it really doesn't matter a whole bunch. But I always try to get them on the surface if they are willing.

So here is my go to list. Parachute adams, Elk hair caddis, chernobyl stimi, klink.

#8 Len Thompsans (especially Orange and Black and Firetigers) and Panther Martins.

As well as various flies, (#14 Green and White Humptys are my favourite) which I set up with a small split shot and bobber if the cutties aren't cooperating.

X2 it realy depends on the trip, if its a hiking trip that I'll have a few chances to do some fishing I'll often take a spinning rod and a pocket full of hooks and do well. If theres going to be lots of fishing and not so much hiking then I'll take more gear. Same goes for canoe trips, it all depends on how high a priority you can make fishing without cutting into your other goals or becoming a hinderance to other members of your party.

If I just take spinning gear I make sure to bring allong some nymphs and dry flys and the gear to cast them as well as some spoons and spinners.

went to walmat and spent 7 bucks on a case and 20 on fly tying stuff and filled a both within 2 days!
my other fly boxes are premade by someone tyeing em around the world.

I normally end up using dry flies if they are jumping, if they are jumping most of the time I find it really doesn't matter what they are using, size seems more important than the type of fly it seems to me. if they aren't jumping I use a variety of wooley buggers, prince nymph, gold ribbed hares ear, and a number of shrimp patterns.

thanks im guess im not missing anything i got my dry fly box with me to. its just that they wouldnt be rising much in early june.

Smaller (#3 I think?) Panther Martin, barb crimped, Orange and Yellow, or Green and Yellow are my personal favourites. Silver and yellow is okay too. :) Usually works a treat!!

I carry a ten inch frying pan. (lol) I do release. I would carry a few nymphs but mostly dry flies. Cutthroat are not normally fussy and willingly take dries on a normal day. Small dries and some red humpys should do the trick. Have fun. Rick.
