Since there were so many guys that missed the other one, I will run this one and bow out of the other.

There are 12 slots to fill, make whatever fly you want x 12, send them in to me by May 25 2011, plus an enclosed Self Addressed Stamped Envelope (SASE) to cover the cost of getting your flies back to you. There is no set category for this one, whatever you want to make in whatever size would be super.

reply to the list with your name, and the fly you will be doing, when you decide on a pattern.

Tie 12 flies, if you can post what they are beside your name in the list of 12 with a picture. I will PM you my address, so you can send 12 flies and a self addressed stamped envelope so I can send you 12 back. If you take 2 envelopes with you to the post office, have them weigh the full one, and put the same amount of stamps on the 2nd one, with your name and adress on it.

Let's try to have them to me by May 25, and I will return them that day.

Fishingmom, that is the beauty of tying your own flies. They no longer have names because you can take the things you like about several flies and meld them into one.
I am interested in seeing how my patterns fish for you all. I don't get out near as often as I used to so I will have to fish my flies vicariously through you!

Okay . . . I'll be sending in size 3/0 double bunnies (for pike, but big hungry bullies will eat them too). I'll be making them a little bit different than I usually do, as the eyes I normally use on them would complicate shipping. I won't be weighting them as heavily as I usually do, either, as I don't want to totally throw off the return shipping charges.

I'm not sure what colour they'll be yet. I've got three good colour combos, and not enough magnum rabbit to do twelve in any of the three combos. I won't be picking up more rabbit until tomorrow.

The first person who is in the swap to respond chooses the colour combo :)

Chartreuse with green and black bars & chartreuse (may have to sub green)

Note that you will may need to Dremel off the barbs on these hooks. The are difficult to pinch.

:lol: Because those other colours can be pretty awesome! The yellow and red 5-of-diamonds has always been a mystery to me. Not sure why it works, but there are many people who swear by it. The other schemes kind of mimic it.

Chartreuse it is :) That works out well, as I have enough of the striped and will just need one big bag of the non-striped.

I would recommend not to request a specific fly, as Ben follows the same rules as everyone else when we do a swap. For this swap we're allowed to choose, so he should be able to choose for himself (IMO) if he participates.

The Icky flies are great. I've got quite a few of them, and they're worth ordering :)

Or rather, I'm mostly done. I'll be sending up eleven flies. The dog sunk his teeth into one of the strips of striped zonker, and only half of it was usable after I got it away from him.

I'm just not happy with the job I've done this time: lots of deficiencies, and the chartreuse zonker I picked up is garbage (mats, too thick, and the colour isn't quite right). Arrgghh! Oh well. Out of time.

I used a phosphorescent head-cement this time. I'm not sure how well it glows as this is the first time I've used it.

You might like to taper the tail of this fly (I'd do it, but it tends to look a little messy, and these are messy enough :o) to improve the movement a bit. Also, a sink-tip or split shot might be good to use since these are not weighted as heavily as what I normally do.

Just wanted to give everyone an update on the Canada Post Strike and how it may affect the fly swaps, auctions and donations.

"Turning up the pressure, the union for postal workers has announced the start of rotating walkouts, beginning with Winnipeg, if a deal isn’t reached by the 11:59 p.m. EDT deadline Thursday.

In a union bulletin posted on the web site, the Canadian Union of Postal Workers said the Winnipeg local will be on strike for 24 hours, moving to other cities to be announced later."

So it seems they're not going to go full out at this point and cease mail service completely. It shouldn't affect us much other than a day or two delay if they continue this format and it seems like both sides really want to reach a deal.

Its like those who place a winning bid on ebay then realize they can't pay for it. Nothing you can do but shake your head.

Ken, I have hosted many fly swaps on various boards over the years. There are a few things to do that make the swaps go in a timely fashion. A) Establish a firm date for the flies to be in by. If they are late coming in then you just send their flies back to them with a note saying sorry you were too late.
B) make a note of who it was and if you run another swap and they are wanting to get in then eliminate them from participating. It seems like some people are notoriously late for everything.

Any how don't let one person spoil it for you. Not your fault if they are late. Just inform all the people in the swap as to who is late and that they will be one fly less than they expected.

Ken You are not dissapointing anyone i know that we appreciate someone taking the time to host something like this, it is aewsome that you would take the time to help out fellow outdoorsmen i am not in a rush just really excited to see what i recieve. The only thing dissapointing is that some of the flies didnt make the deadline whatever the reasons. But i am sure everyone Greatly appreciates you doing this for us i know i do thanks CrossFire...

So now that the postal strike is over, where do we stand on the swap? ( I realize it'll take a few days to a week for CP to catch up). Are we still missing anyone's flies? I'll assume that whoever didn't get theirs in before the strike would have had MORE than enough time to complete them and throw them in the mail???

Just getting anxious to use some of these flies. I know the "witching hour" for using mine is approaching on the Bow and other rivers as the goldens begin to hatch.

Mine came in the mail yesterday. Thanks everybody! They look good. I got out today to give them a try. The leech looking one took a bit of a beating. The bead now sits halfway down the hook shank, and all the body material is bunched up making a pretty fat little leech.

I hope everyone else is liking theirs.

Right now is the time for using the chernobylish thing I tied up, on the Bow. Hit it late in the evening or early morning and cast it tight to the bank, then 3 feet out, then 10 feet. Then take a few steps upstream and repeat the process. Lather, rinse, repeat. When they do come up and slurp it, wait as long as you can before setting the hook. I usually try to say, "son of a bitch" before setting the hook after I've seen one come up. Works quite well and is also extremely satisfying. Enjoy!

When are we going to dump this weight and let UPS run the show?(I would include Purolator as well but they suck rocks almost as much as C.P.)

Not surprised. Two useless peas in a pod. I worked at a camp for several years and ONCE purolator got stuck delivering a package to us in the winter because their stupid driver couldn't back up properly. They wouldn't deliver anymore after that. I phoned several times complaining that we had to drive 1/2 to Red Deer to pick up subsequent packages but they didn't care. The phone conversations was much like:

Me: So you won't deliver packages to __________ camp anymore?

Them: No, our driver got his vehicle stuck so we have decided not to deliver mail to that site anymore. You need to come to our store now to pick up your packages.

Me: Ok???? So ........what is it that your company gets paid to do again?

Them: Purolator delivers mail sir.

Me: Right..... so you are now going to receive mail, but not deliver it anymore, even though you've taken money from the customer already with the understanding that you would actually DELIVER the package directly to the recipient?

Them: That is correct, we will no longer deliver mail to your address but you are...

Me: So..... what is it again that your company does?

Them: We deliver mail sir.

Me: So tell me again why you aren't going to do the ONE thing your company is supposed to do? You deliver mail right? So how does a company exist that doesn't actually do what it is supposed to do?

Them: Well... you can still receive your mail if you come down...

Me: But you won't deliver it anymore?

Them: That is correct.

Me: Even though people have paid you to DELIVER their package to us?

Them: That is correct, we will no longer be....

Me: And even though delivering mail is the ONLY thing your company does, you won't be providing that service to this camp?

Them: That is correct, but of course, in your case...

Me: Ok, thank you very much. Nice to see you doing nothing and still getting paid for it. Well done. "click".
