Well, the ol' NSR was sure busy yesterday. I stopped by a couple spots that were busy enough that I just kept on driving, and finally broke down and went to one of my favorite spots, but it's often busy. I was surprised that when I showed up around noon that there was nobody around. Of course after I got there people started showing up

There were fish jumping all over but not taking much of anything...finally nabbed a 5 1/2lb walleye mid-afternoon on bait. A little later, maybe around 4-5 I was pitching hardware and finally got into the kind of fish that I'm used to the river producing. Nevermind the little burbot that have been around for a while now, I finally got back into the pike!

My computer is acting wonky this morning, so only a couple of the pics uploaded

The sad thing is that I don't know if I'll have time to get back down there today or not for another crack at 'em now that I know the river is really producing :o

edit: I just noticed it was the good pike pics that didn't make the upload! :angry3:

yeah shes pretty muddy and high up right now but me and my m8 ended up settling down for some shore fishing about 100 meters up the whitemud creek, got a half dozen goldeyes in the 1 pound range in no time flat.
Buddy also got a decent sized pike... awful fight though, only about 2 minutes because he beached it on a sandbar with only 6 inches of water about 30 seconds after the hit... the next minute and a half was me slip sliding down the bank trying to get a hold of the bugger !

Good on you Geezle, nice catch.
When I first read the title I thought you were talking about stocked fish, I was going to say dont keep the big ones at Birch, they taste muddy, only keep new stockers.

I got the first, skinny spawned out lookin' one on bait (good ol' minnow) and the porkier looking one I got on a Rattlin' Rap.

With the water still being pretty muddy I figured either bait so they can follow the scent, or something noisy so they can follow the sound, are the best ways to go. I did toss some other stuff out there, and had a few follows, but as far as hardware goes, I had pretty much all my action on rattlers.

In a week or two when the water really cleans up you can also do pretty well flipping jig/rubber tail combos out, as well as on spoons and from time to time inline spinners or spinnerbaits.

And the pickerel (walleye?) rig with worms and/or minnows has its place as well :)

Nice fishies Geez! So jealous you get to wrangle river pike up there, they are quite a rarity in the SSR down here so when we do actually hook into one it's a nice surprise!
Good luck on the NSR this year, you seem to have a great handle on it, should catch some gooders for sure:sHa_shakeshout:
Cheers n GL!:)
