Hey there. How can I tell if my Outboard is a long or short shaft? Any Ideas. I have a 2009 2S Opti. Thanks:thinking-006:

Boat builders manufacture their crafts' in three basic transom heights. The transom height is measured from the top of the transom, (where the engine bolts on), straight down to the keel, (bottom middle), of the boat. A 15'' transom would require a shortshaft engine. A 20" transom would need a longshaft outboard, and a boat with a 25" transom, would require a extra longshaft engine.

Measure the bottom end on it. That is what determines the difference.

You can measure your motor from the spot where it would sit on the boat down to the horizontal fins above the prop.
