This weekend we went out by Caroline camping and on Sunday morning my kids could not wait to get me up to go fishing, so at 6am we were up and on our way to the lake. When we got there it was call and cold, not a stitch of wind or cloud in the sky, we fished for a an hourish wil no bites... kids were starting to get bored... so I changed them over from spinners to a powerbait worms and bobber so they could play in the boat at the same time... I was standing in the boat just casting my fly and I watched this fish devour my sons worm ... he grabbed the rod and I told him to reel .. luckily the fish came towards the boat.. grabbed the net and the rest is history.... It weighed in at 10lb 5oz and was 24.5 inches long.

Wow! A fish he'll remember for a lifetime.

I believe the idea that kids just want to catch a fish, any fish, may no longer hold true for your son..... And so begins a lifelong pursuit of trying to beat that record.

Cheers.

Yup poor little guy has been ruined forever :) ....but seriously thats a dandy fish for anyone let alone a young fisherman! That's way bigger than any trout most of us have ever caught! Those 4-6inchers in the local trout pond will be chump change to him now! Good on you for getting them out there.

What a fish, nice catch.

I took my 2 nieces out yesterday and they caught their first ever fish. It sure was fun watching a 5 and 8 year old yelling and screaming.

Your boy will be hooked forever now.

formykids

Yes the fish was for diner, but we did get the measurements and weights verified by another person first so I will submit it for sore, as well his birthday is coming up so he is getting a replica mount done for his birthday, (obviously will not be done in time) but he will be pretty excited for that... today he thought we should skip work and school and head out fishing again he thought it was my turn to catch one and he could run the boat and net... he knows where they are... lol

Wicked Job Dad, thats the type of photo your son will be showing his entire life. Great work, I love seeing photos of kids hunting and fishing...no matter what the size.

Also, I am very curious as to how that big fish tasted as from rumblings I have heard she would have only been in that lake for 2-3 days when you caught her.

Great job to both of you.

they had stocked the lake about a week and a half ago ... was far from the best tasting fish ever but everything tastes good cooked over an open fire...

Phylis has been one of the funnest lakes for me and my boys too. Ten years ago my youngest got a 8 pound rainbow out of there. (He was 6 at the time)
And a few years ago when we started to try flyfishing we had a day there when we had to hide below the side of the boat to tie a new fly on. We literally had strikes where the fish jumped out the water to grab the fly before it landed on the water. Fun times.
