Decided to hit Minnewanka for the first time in 6 years, and slammed a hog! It was 39 inches and estimated between 24-27 lbs. Hit the fish within 20 seconds of dropping it down. First bite, fought unreal. Used heavy salmon gear and this fish kicked its ass. I managed about 15 all day, 1 around 8 pounds, another around 6, a few from 3-5, and all the rest small. Similar results for my dad. The magic depth was 125 feet an inch off the bottom. Lots mid water column and a few hits on the way down as well. Beautiful day, couldnt ask for more. On that note, im leaving in 12 hours for 3 months of guiding on the west coast and will report back after the summer, ttyl! Check out this video!

Real nice Laker. Beatiful looking grey. Love the landscape too!

I'd love to see you try that "heavy salmon gear" on a Salmon. A 20lbs Chinook would give you arse kiciking and then some. Medium action Pike gear at best from my perspective. :thinking-006:

Nice job. He'll be a tough one to beat!

@ Penner- Thanks man, that rod is a heav action 10'6 trolling rod made by some ancient brand that we just popped a spinning reel on. . Its really old and we used to use it on the saltchuck for springs and as our primary salmon rod. It worked great as it has tons of backbone and we landed dozens of tyees and acouple over 50 on this rod. Thats why we were so surprised how this fish could torque the **** out of it lol. ;)
