I'm becoming more and more of a fan of chucking big hardware, what are peoples favorite lures for big pike? I've been throwing big musky killers, gliding raps, saltwater x-raps, giant swimbaits and plastics... and it's fun!
Gonna stop in at BPS this weekend to find some more big stuff, just looking for suggestions of what to check out.... thanks

Same thing as a Mepps musky killer? Other brands out there? Thats all I've found like that around here, and yeah it seems to work great! I'll look for more stuff like that. Color suggestions?

any more specifics on models or colors? These big hooks are usually around $20 a pop, so would rather get stuff that works than waste a bunch of money

Nothing beats a size 14 husky jerk! But also use big mepps and blue fox spinners! Spinnerbaits work well. 15 cm white swimbaits!!! T
hose are deeeeeadly! especially if they have a good action on them. Also try Pelican Lures!

I find the storm wildeye swim baits work beautifully when trolled adjacent to weed beds and deeper pools especially when there is some current to add to the swimming action.

baby pike design and the kickn' shad work the best. The kickn' shad looks almost like a small gold eye and I land the majority of my larger NSR pike using it.

watch out for the bottom trebles, they can get rapped around your line after you miss a good strike, and the next time you set the hook *snap* goes the line, by by mr. pikey !

tight lines' !

no worries, had a F&W officer sift through my takle box one time, and tried to give me a ticket because he found an old hook that had a piece of line and knot on it with a barb still intact. Told him to **** off, the hook was older than me and half the hooks in there were purchased in the 80's.

anyways i wanted to be the first to stir the pot this time.:fighting0074:

How should I know what works for big pike... i've never caught one. :sHa_sarcasticlol:

I've had a couple lunkers follow my spinnerbaits. All my spinnerbaits are made by Albertafisher but Booyah has some vera nice ones.
I've seen some BIG ones at basspro, can't recall the brand.. could have been booyah but not sure.

For lures I've caught most of my big pike on large plugs, if I had to single one out it would be the Lucky Strike jointed Pikie minnow. If your realy serious about catching big pike a big frozen sardine under a bobber or on the bottom is your best bet.

Cudos on your signature Fishhunter, thats the smartest thing I've heard out of you yet.

don't be afraid to try a larger size ! even when you are getting steady hammer handle action, I always try tossing out the biggest most ridiculous bait I can, and you will be surprised how many times i've watched a massive whirl pool just inhale a 8''+ spinner or rap... leader and all :sHa_shakeshout:

I'm going to paint all my gigantic spoons white,, made some huge spoons last year and the white ones were stunning,, if I could only glaze my hooks in a white enamel. Anyone know a good, low toxic enamel I could dip my hooks into?

Thanks will research now. The cool thing will be, when I pinch and file down my barbs, the coating will smooth out the burrs and I'll be able to adjust the hook to act like the lip on a crankbait and give the spoons more action.

the yellow and red Canadian Wiggler in pic #2 [the diver] and the last pic works beautifully when trolling, you can actually feel it dive, tap the bottom, then rocket back to the surface.

works beautifully for the big girls who only like to look and not touch, because pike in my experience just cannot resist when something rockets to the surface right from under there nose.

Salmo Fatso gliders are great, just make sure you put on good trebles. Slower the better, they're a chunky bite.

I would recommend a big white, orange or black grub. Kalins make Mogambo grubs up to 10" i believe, real good product, and cheap. Rig it weedless(worm hook), weighted or unweighted, put some skirting ahead of the hook and enjoy. Also Lunker city salt shakers in bigger sizes are a great paddle tail softbait for pike. This is a lot easier on your arms and back, and catches pike any time of the year.
