Can anyone give me some pointers or setups for catching burbot. Headed to Buffalo this weekend and wanted to see if I can hook into a couple.

If you leave chicken out for a few days in the sun it seems to work pretty good for bait. Rotten minnows not bad either. Pretty much anything that stinks.

I hear they are good eating, but are they fun to fish, or just 'dead weight' on the line after a few seconds??

jig head right off the bottom with either minnow or worm works great, and yes after dark is the best bite - good luck

When I caught those ugly buggers this winter I was amazed how little meat was on them. Seemed to hardly fight. Do these dogfish fight harder in open.water season?

They fight like a big rock.

We use meat bait left sitting on the bottom. After dark.

They are good eating if caught in cold water. When the water warms up the quality goes down in my experience.

Good flavour good texture and no bones. Fix like a deer, skin - gut- cut up and fry. Don't get any better then that.

Who cares if the fight. They get big enough for a full family meal out of one fish.

The biggest I have seen was estimated at 18 pounds. The average is closer to four pounds.

Hey Edwardszx go tho the Narrows hook a smelt with a pickeral rig and throw it on the bottom. The more the stink on the fish the better! Crack a beer and sit back relax and prepare for the odd pike as well as ling.
