Keeping pike

I love eating pike.
Problem is I don't want to stop at 1 and go back to shore right away.
What is the better method?

1 Bonk it on the head, leave him in the boat till you get back.
2 Leave him on a stringer.
3 Or just let him flop around in the boat till you go back to shore.

I know 3 sounds bad but I'm sure some people do it....
Ps. I do not have a live well.

I fish mostly northern/central alberta and northern sask.

Dore, Waterhen, sturgeon, slave, etc...

Keep a cooler with some ice in your boat and your good to go. You could gut and remove gills if you want but i dont, just keep fishing.

catch. bonk. throw out anchor. clean. BBQ. all while continuing to fish. repeat if desired. not gonna enjoy your fish any fresher.

clean gut and ice it. so its not stressed
or keep the pike at the end of the day

I usually bring a good knife, and when i catch somthing worth keeping, ill fill a pail up with water, cut the fish behind the gill and bleed it out in the bucket, works well,

bingo, and tastes as fresh as just caught, but bonk it first

Spike the brain,remove the gills,gut it and put on ice. Done deal in less than 2minutes and the fish will be nice and fresh for later.

As far as i know,the best method is to grab it by the eye sockets and shake it...firmly.

If the water is COLD, leave it on the stringer. Otherwise on ice in a cooler....or I like the answer to take a BBQ in the boat and eat it right away. The sooner a fish is gutted, the better it will taste.vRelease the warm water slough sharks. They aren't worth eating.
