When I saw a magpie on a branch eyeballing one of my tree swallow houses, I thought of all the ways I could trap it and make our beloved poplar monkey proud......:thinking-006:

And then I shot it with my 60 year old Slovak .17 pellet gun :fighting0021:

Sorry tree, this just worked out better in the end. :)

Whooping cranes during the spring season, but not during the fall season as they are accompanied by that seasons chicks.

Burrowing owls if they are wrecking your lawn....same status as gophers.

And albino crows all summer long!

Killing them is a good thing for the songbirds without a doubt.

We allowed a pair of crows to nest in peace in our back spruce this year as an experiment. They were very effective at keeping the GD merlins away that we've tolerated for the past couple of years with great regret.

Interestingly enough, we have a 'Shrub built' box on the exact same tree and have greatly enjoyed the amount of effort the sparrows have put into making it a home. The little ones should be out any day now. :)

My live trap had a floor in it for a reason. All magpies were safely transported to a couple of non-disclosed locations and released unharmed. This generally means interior settings, but my lawyer advises me against elaborating too much further......... :innocent:

NONE within municipal jurisdictions. Good luck with your career path, Shawn. I sincerly hope it all works out for you, but it's going to be a long damn road dude......

Albino crows can be shot, white "Kermode" Crows are protected, but they shouldn't be IMO, that's just racist.

Do you have to salvage the meat and eat Crow?

Sure wish we had a CO around to clear this stuff up.

If you live in the right town, you can shoot skunks with shotguns, as long as you have permission from the town.

Quite often here you hear boom thump and then smell the results

I have been thinking about Treeguy's magpie adventures a lot lately as I am pretty sure I have three new magpie families in the local vicinity. I knocked five of them off with my 17 hmr so far. Leaves are too thick to make much use of the famed magpie funeral. One took a backwards flip at about 80 yards.

Tree do you have any pics of your trap available? I need to build one because I cannot afford to feed dogs and magpies both.

they have been harassing the robins and as soon as I show up they buzz off.

I have a flock (?) of sage grouse that inhabit my yard and local park area, they look real tasty, and hell there come within 20 feet of the BBq, but they are protected.

And for the record crow meat tastes like ass, but chipmunk is better.

According to SRD there isn't a flock of sage grouse in the entire province...are you sure?

According to SRD Grizzly bears are endangered.

Actually not...threatened ;)

"And for the record crow meat tastes like ass" I'm gonna defer to your expertise on those two items as I've not eaten either.:)

Maybe he's from out of province, like Montana.

I just saw another (&^*&% magpie hot on the tail of a yellow bird, caught it in the trees and was killing it. I whipped rocks into the trees hoping to scare it off, but think I was too late.

I spend a LOT of money buying 60 lb sunflower seeds 2 at a time many times per year, build bird houses, and these (^&(*&)(*( birds think I am fattening them up for them, WRONG!

I have found the perfect way to trap magpies. It works like a charm. Pm me, not something I really want to discuss on a public forum. It is ethical and legal, just really don't want to have the ethics police show up.

Ken I feel your pain. Dog food is now running about 30 bucks a bag. Two dogs are enough to keep fed. I need a direct line to the department of highways and the road kill crew.

Three more magpies bit the dust tonite. :sHa_shakeshout: Locked the aussie up while I did my tour since he tends to be the scouting party as well as the warning. Dog loves to hunt. Especially coyotes.
