After my garage was broken into this past week, my friend Moose took me fishing today on the Bow in his jetboat to cheer me up. The boat used to belong to fellow board member, Skinny Dipper - which is still the name of the boat!

An absolutely gorgeous day on the water. We did very well, with over 10 fish each on nymphs under an indicator.

I pulled my biggest Bow Brown out at 10:00 this morning.

We didn't weigh it, or get a tape on it. I quickly measured it on my rod, roughly 28 inches and we got a video of the release. I will post it up here shortly. Any guesses on weight? For reference, I am 6'0 220lbs.

As Bob Loblaw says: Caught on a 5 weight, and GOOD KARMA!

That is one fine fish. Not only is it big, but its colors are beautiful. Great catch.

Next time get a girth measurement as well (just in front of the dorsal fin) and you can calculate the weight (fairly close anyway).

I am guessing about 7lbs.

Here is the video of the release.

Official measurement is 29 inches, I just measured the mark on my rod.

**No I was not petting it, there was some silt stuck on her back and since my hands were already wet, I wiped most of it off.

As you have found out today, TFG, karma is a powerful thing and never to be underestimated. ;)

Gorgous brownie dude. Using the rod as a measure to keep her safe is a good trick that likely earn you some 'bonus points' too. Glad to see you had a great day. :)

Excellent TFG!

Hey! You're standing in my spot!

That seam behind the boat is usually good for a few fish. Caught some good browns there.

Great looking fish and a great picture! :happy0034:

Kudos, Gibson.
That is one heckuva brown; long, thick & beautifully colored; a perfect specimen. You should be just as proud as you sound in the video.
Now, don't forget that you owe me royalties for using my quote...:)

Gonna say 7-9 pounds, That fish looks like it has shoulders and 23-25 inch fish weigh from 4-6 pounds depending on girth.

This fish is going up on the wall as a replica, so I need to do my best at estimating girth. I agree with BHflyfisher, 7-9 lbs seems about right.

Mr Loblaw, the royalties are in the mail ;)

I would like to add a very important facet to me landing this fish. I spin cast mostly, so I when Moose and I went out, he provided me with his waders, rod and reel, and flies. He was very focused on making sure I had a great day on the water. Moose is a die hard fly master, and has fished the Bow religiously for years, and this is the biggest fish he has seen come out of those waters. Was he choked that it was me that got this fish in? Not at all. He was just as pumped as I was, you can hear his excited breathing in the video. he did an excellent job of landing this fish, and once we got a hold of her, the hook slid out effortlessly, she was barely hooked.

Moose, you are the man. And a helluva buddy, thanks brother.
