Well, first off I have to say a big thanks to my good buddy thorne from the forum for inviting me along on this little scouting adventure. None of us had ever done the laker thing before, and although we'd picked up a lot of info from folks beforehand, we were still sort of flying blind.

Even flying blind we managed to get ourselves into a couple of lakers, though I think if we had somebody with us who really knew what they were doing we probably could have upped our success rate.

So to cut to the chase, here's a couple pics. The first one is thorne's first ever laker (bastard beat me to it!) and the rest are of mine :)

So now that we've got a small idea of what these fish are like (and how they fight!) I really gotta do my homework so when we go back in a couple weeks we'll be able to land a few more of these beasts.

well. if nothing else......we know alot of places they are not! Great day thought, even with a little motor technicalities. Next time we'll slay em! Oh ya any one on Cold Lake that day who heard some idiot screaming like a teenage girl at a pop boy band concert......ya that was me....got a little excited:medium-smiley-035:

With a gut like that...I want to know what the laker had eaten. There must of been a few cisco or whites in it's gut...or a small person?

Did you check the stomach contents?

Sorry man, no can do tonight. I did a pretty ugly job filleting it anyway, so I'll just figure out something to do with it here :)

Going up again in a couple weeks though, so depending on how it goes I might be able to send a fillet your way

Thanks guys!!

I can't wait to go back for another shot at 'em, especially if we're armed with a little more knowledge! :fighting0030:

I know the fish that we got weren't huge by any means, but man I can't believe how powerful they are when they want to take off! And just overall a way different experience than a lot of the fishing I usually get to do! :sHa_shakeshout:

I sent Thorne info on camping in Cold Lake. Did not hear from him. Did you find a spot?

Awesome Lakers guys!

They are a lot of fun when you get on top of them, and you are right! When they want to go, they will and not much will stop them!

Thanks for posting!

Awesome fish, love that lake and laker fishing, other than jumbo perch, lake trout may be my favorite to fish for.
