I,m heading out to Pembina river to fish by the provicial lake area. Anyone know is the river is high or low? Where are the good spots. And what is the best lures to use for rivers? Jigs? Spinners?
I prefer to use bait on rivers as it's easy to rig it up to stay in place. Lindy rigs, pickeral rigs, etc. Otherwise just about anything goes. I've had success with rapala plugs because you can get them to hang in the current fairly well and they sit there and vibrate like crazy.
Kind of the oddball one I've had luck with in the rivers is a buzz bomb.

My Barry Mitchell guide says mostly walleyes and the regs say from Lodgepole (Sec. Hwy. 753) to Sangudo (Hwy 43) bait is allowed. That's the section you're after, Thunder.
