Oh 7 Coyote Prices

Just sold 44 dogs and did I ever take a lickin.For the lot of them I got a grand total of $580 and that was with a $10 bounty included. I had a number,eleven with only bounty value, but still 33 and some were dandiesthat brought only $140 without bounty. Past few years I have averaged $35 or so with a bounty and I remember the days of coyotes bringing $315 at the auction and averages close to $200 for a good dog -my how things change.

Wow $13.20 a coyote, I would have to think that you're loosing money. That's way to low of price to kill an animal I think.

very few coyote hunters actually turn a profit if you add up all the fuel, new gear, spent rounds, breakfast with the boys.part of the fun of it is that most guys dont count on for income otherwise it would be WORK and that would take the excitement out of it.i agree selling a nice pelt is a huge bonus rather than letting the dog rot out in the field.it also helps to justify that new scope or camo you have been eyeing up.

yeah its not good this year. Im gettin 10 bucks unskinned and bout 15 for skinned. But for like most guys, its just enjoyment

I agree that if I was chasing coyotes for money I'd of quit 40 years ago. As for people that ask what the prices are, I ask what a golf ball is worth as most of them will hunt them in the bush.

You want fair dollar then skin, flesh, stretch and ship to auction. It is fact that farm buyers or stores pay about 30 percent they have to make a buck also. Its not the old days but I average between 70.00 to 100.00 at auction.

Good question, I have to squeeze every dollar out of my dogs so finish them all up. I have not seen the first set of nafa results as thats who I ship through, cannot afford to sell to a country buyer, I wished I had a crystal ball to forsee auction results, but am waiting for a later auction to see some starting prices, if your skinning freeze them for awhile if there stretched hang them in a cold place and wait it out. My results....they sold 11 of 18....averaged $47.18 with a high of $64.

And these were last years coyotes, still haven't shipped any of this years.

lesson on how to properly ready a coyote for sale at market looks like no one is taking frozen whole ones i have found on the internet a few measurments for stretchers but how do you know what size coyote you have to stretch, and what colores are more valuble and what is too damaged to be sold?

I make my own boards paillight, they're basically 2 1x4 boards that I've cut and shaped from a pattern I made from my first split board I got from a garage sale. Using a split board allows you to stretch any size coyote on 1 board as a pelt will only stretch so much. I'll get some measurements and pics for you this weekend.

thanks ruger i have heard you can stretch them too much i would like to know how to properly prepair the fur . been reading a little seems like a pressure washer is the easy way to clean the body but how do you clean all the tissues off the inside of the head and what do you do with the frount leggs? do they get tacked to the stretching board too some how? and are they left inside out so many questions to be asked . i am really green on this

it would be great if some one would not mind to show me a few tricks of the trade. i really like going out on weekend and calling, but taking the next step to market is the hardest it seems and a whole lot less exciting

thanks bush master i am from wetaskiwin sorry i did not reply sooner. yes that web page helped a lot with the pictures gives a guy a pretty good idea , now i am wondering about a split stretcher or a solid one with a belly wedge the split ones seem to be the way to go you do not need more then one size if i understand what i have been reading.

The only ones I have ever used are the split, adjustable ones....I like 'em.
But I can't say anything bad about the solid boards as I've never tried them.
The coyotes come off of the adjustables easy , though.

ruger had said he was going to post some pictures and measuments for a split stretcheri have found a web page with patterns for solid ones with a belly wedge but you need two or three stretchers for diffrent sizes. so once skinned and stretched you leave the pelt on the board over night then you turn it fur side out so how long in total do you have to leave it on the stretching boards?

Halford Hide in Edmonton has splitboards for about 16 bucks each. They are built to proper dimensions.
