Glad you had some luck, but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE keep the fish in the water (don't let them flop around on the ground), they live longer that way!!

yes.. i did handle the fish with care and made sure that they were out of the water for bare minimum amount of time, but for sure i will take a note of that.

I would recommend you pick up a C&R net from WSS or CanTire. Just notch it at 12'' and 24'' when they come to within 3 feet just set the rod against a rock scoop em up, quick pic with the notches in view dip him back in the water unhook him and you have one happy healthy fish to be caught another day ! no need to drag them by the leader up on the dirt and get mud/grass/bacteria in there gills, eyes, and mouth. Remember most fish don't have eye lids! keep the sand out of them! 75+% mortality if they get sand or gravel in there eyes, 100% if you hold them out of water for more then 20 seconds. a good rule is, the second you scoop him out of the water in the net, start holding your breath. if you can no longer hold it let him go... but remember that they have just run a marathon and you better believe they want a breather, but to have a sock rammed down your throat right after you run a marathon, well its just asking for brain damage...

Most of this information is inaccurate and speculative according to the various government and private studies. Either way, best to get them out and in as soon as possible and keep them off the ground.
