Cold Lake was a complete success, had one day where we landed 12 and this morning my brother in law managed 3. We did end up keeping two for the smoker one 16LB on purpose and a 14.5LB that was badly hooked in the gills. I have it all on HD video and ill add it to this thread tonight. What a blast :sHa_shakeshout: It was non stop action the first night. We were using 4oz slip weights and a simple mepps white and red Cyclops. I hope this fishery lasts unfortunately I wasn't the only one having success and there was a line up at the provincial park cleaning station:(

What were you catching?

Lake trout, A huge thanks to C Taylor who put me directly on the fish:sHa_shakeshout: You may end up with a few Pm's but just know I was the only boat on that exact area so I would defiantly safe guard the spot. Thanks Again and stay tuned for the vids.

Glad to hear the perch were biting. big ones are awfully oily, but canned with a bit of liquid smoke makes for a great meal while hunting.

Very cool Fluxcore! I was there yesterday, caught my first ever lake trout. What a hoot! It was the first Time I have used down riggers, wish I had not done that :thinking-006:

I am hoping to go out again this week, or on the weekend for sure.

Nice fish!

Talk about a BLAST, the smaller ones came up with relative ease but unless you've done it yourself its hard to explain with words the excitement of hooking into a big laker at 70'-80' down thats right p!ssed off and you know your in for a fight, my brother in law hooked into a fish that fought him for 20min before coming off :thinking-006: hes convinced it was a 30+lbs, I'm giving him a hard time saying his bail was set too loose:sHa_sarcasticlol: I'm looking forward to getting out again next year, its nice I scratched laker's off the bucket list.

Do you guys use Apexs, Swimwhiz, or flat fish at all?Just curious cause lures that work at most lakes back home are not the choice here it seems. Guys jig for them only to **** them off but I have more luck figure eighting them with down riggers.
I know some guys bombing them are using kokanees but I've had better luck rigging.
Those fish will be tasty....Im envious, its been a few years since I had a good BBQ lake trout!

I hope the fishery lasts too!! Its a big lake so that will help. I was there on the weekend and it seem like everybody was having excellent luck with the lake trout. The lake sure seems busier than it was in the past

I'm Looking at heading out early August and would love it if an angler or two wanted to tag along from Red Deer and be willing to chip in $30 for gas (truck) and $9 if we decide to spend the night, boat gas Ill cover:) Ken has the right Idea Its worth it to have a friend or two chip in and make the trip more comfortable financially especially when your boating and fishing on lakes as much as I am:sign0161:.

Alberta needs to get with the program , protect the big fish over 65cm , keep the ones under if you want. There would be more MONSTERS !
