Elbow Lake

I'm heading up to Elbow Lake this weekend with my family,
Just wondering what I should use, I'm not bring my fly rod.

Just spent the weekend up at Elbow. Make sure you book ahead, it fills up fast. It also may be closed now due to a momma grizzly and cub in the area when i was there. They may have moved on however.

As far as fishing, BRING THE FLYROD! Elk Hair Caddis was catching fish but it seemed like any small dry would do the trick. IF your dead set on not bringing the flyrod, use a casting bubble and fly with light line. As far as hardware, small spinners and spoons will catch the odd fish, but flies are your best bet at that lake. Best spoon for it is smallest black and white LT. Fish off the bottom of the scree slope OR off the "peninsula" sites.

the key to that lake is small tackle, there isn't much of size there, a ton of fish but 6-9 inches the vast majority of what you catch there. flies are definatley best

the brookies there are pretty competive for food where there is a lack of food and brookies are pretty opertunistic and aggreive. especialy in elbow lake a mepps spinner is about the same size and soo is alot of fly patterns people fish with.
a 3cm minnow will be no trouble for a 8inch brookie in a lake with little food.

I agree about the fly gear and elk hair caddis.... about size 14. Trout candy!

I think the fish are stunted, due to high competition and lack of food. I agree with FishingFrenzy... bring your flyrod (you'll regret it if you leave it at home).

As for flies, I would suggest size 18 or 20 gnats. Bring your floatant, because those fish are going to be drowning your flies over and over again. Good luck and report back please.
