Most of you probably have seen that I haven’t been online the past week. Well I have been out on the west coast fishing with the Great Pacific Salmon Lodge.
Before I get into any details all I can say is WOW. This was one of the best fishing adventures I have ever been on. Jamie and his crew sure know how to get things done.
Right from the word go we were met at airport shuttle bus, until the time we were dropped off at the airline check in counter, the service was exceptional.
Our days at the Great Pacific Salmon started out early each morning. When we got up a warm breakfast was waiting for us each day. After a quick bite to eat, and a coffee, we were whisked away a few hundred yards via a golf cart to the dock. We then boarded our boats and headed for the fishing grounds. There was never any time wasted standing around. Everyone was always was ready to go.
The boats and fishing equipment that the Great Pacific Salmon Lodge uses is either new or almost new. I was lucky enough to spend my time on Jamie’s newest boat of the fleet. It was a new 24’ Sea Sport equipped with a 300hp Yamaha 4 stroke.
After arriving at our fishing spots it sure didn’t take long to have a fish on. The first day we were out, I had landed my first Chinook with in 10 mins of arriving at our spot. The guides knew their stuff and knew how to put us on the fish. Each day we fished for salmon, and also spent some time catching halibut and other bottom fish. I know that the guides liked to concentrate on salmon, but anytime we asked to switch things up they were more than happy to meet our request.
I won’t touch too much on the actual fishing, but am sure the following pictures will speak for themselves.
After fishing each day we returned to the dock, were picked up in the golf carts, and returned to the lodge. By the time we put our gear away, changed clothes, and came back downstairs to the kitchen and the deck, we had appetizers and beverages awaiting us.
The cook at the Great Canadian Salmon Lodge was great. Each day Jen had something different prepared for us. The appetizers were great and the suppers being even better. I know there wasn’t one time where I walked away from the table hungry. More times than not I should have stopped gorging myself long before I did. I hate to say it but I let the old guy of the group(TJ) out do me on crab night. Even the packed lunches hit the spot each day, and were just what a hungry fisherman needed.
Everything from the service, food, friendliness, equipment, accommodations, was great. I know many lodges that could learn a lot from the Great Pacific Salmon Lodge. If you are looking at going on a west coast fishing trip, and haven’t yet booked, I would take a serious look at the Great Pacific Salmon Lodge.
Since I have so many pictures to share I will have to have multiple posts.
Some of TJ’s pics can be viewed at his blog: http://outdoorquestblog.blogspot.com
Thanks again to Jamie and his crew for exceeding my expectations.
I know I will be back one day!
